St. John's Gate
This oil painting presents a certain unexpected overlap between the aesthetic sensibilities of the early 20th Century “goth” aesthetic and that of mid-19th Century church architecture.
In terms of painting technique, I was able to achieve some degree of photorealism by replicating the photograph’s narrow depth of field, with the foreground being rendered in crisp focus while the background elements are blurred.
